Healing the Invisible Wounds of War

The 22 Project is dedicated to reducing suicides among combat wounded and disabled veterans, reservists, or active duty personnel by using Single-Photon Emission Computerized Tomography (SPECT) imaging technology and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) to treat veterans diagnosed with conditions known to contribute to suicide; specifically, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

WHAT WE OFFER

Helping Our Nation's Veterans

01

SPECT Brain Imagery

SPECT imagery reveals areas of low oxygen flow in the brain, indicating damage associated with their TBI. Post SPECT imagery shows veterans their response to HBOT treatment.

02

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

Veterans undergo 40 HBOT "dives," which helps increase oxygen flow to the damaged areas of their brains, promoting healing.

03

Supplemental Therapies

The 22 Project collaborates with healthcare professionals and wellness facilities to provide veterans with access to supplemental therapies like red light therapy and cold plunges.

04

Fellowship

The 22 Project offers fellowship opportunities designed to promote social, emotional, and spiritual healing, addressing the effects of moral injury for veterans.

05

Travel + Accommodations

We are committed to eliminating barriers to treatment by providing veterans with airfare, rental car, and hotel stay.

06

Case Management

While going through treatment, we prioritize connecting veterans with other services in the area, like equine therapy, aqua therapy, trauma-conscious yoga, golf, etc.

About

ABOUT US

What have we done with Your help?

"In 2012, the Department of Veterans Affairs Mental Health Services Suicide Prevention Program determined that 22 veterans commit suicide each day in our country."

At the 22 Project, our top priority is supporting our nation's veterans. We work with highly trained, board-certified physicians to provide advanced diagnostic imaging to show the impact of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and PTSD on our soldiers. Our partnerships with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treatment centers have been crucial in healing the invisible wounds of war.

We also collaborate with military ministries and outreach programs to provide comprehensive counseling and support services to veterans. Through these efforts, we are committed to ensuring that our veterans receive the care and support they need to lead fulfilling lives.

Revealing war's invisible wounds

We witness miracles every day at The 22 Project!

This SPECT scan shows the impact of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). The top line illustrates severe damage to this veteran's frontal and temporal lobes, shown by the black and blue areas. Such damage can result in mood instability, anxiety, headaches, poor impulse control, difficulty with judgement and forethought, and challenges in empathizing with others.

After 40 HBOT treatments, his frontal and temporal lobes dramatically improved, as seen in the bottom line with the reduction of black and blue areas.
